A monograph on the eminent Czech glass artist Gizela Šabóková, titled “From Light to Matter” (“Od světla k hmotě”), has been published. This publication represents the first comprehensive treatment of the author’s life and works, covering all phases of her professional life from her studies through to 2024. This bilingual monograph, in Czech and English, includes essays by both living and deceased European and overseas historians and theorists of glass and art who have studied her works. The book features approximately 590 photographs of the artist’s works, including documentary and situational images. It also contains a complete bibliography, a list of exhibitions, and spans nearly 400 pages. The graphic design was managed by Robert Novák, with Oldřich Palata serving as the reviewer, Sylva Petrová as the editor, and Prokop Bartoníček as the concept author. The publication is a significant contribution to the understanding of Czech studio glass from the 20th and 21st centuries and the role of women in its internationally recognized development. The book is published by PEBE Interactive in collaboration with the Museum of Decorative Arts as part of its scientific research program.
